Italy - 01 - Roma

Date : 03 - May - 2008
Time : 12:00

Rome always topped my travel wishlist for many long years and its time encash it. It got materialised only after a long list of hurdles in geting the days-off, visa appointment dates, ticket booking and it continued till the cab driver we arranged for airport pickup ditched us at the last moments. With all this hapless moments we were 'forunate' to board the plane as the last passengers.

When we checked in our hotel in Rome it was already 12 in the morning, so we quickly refreshed ourselves and started our day in Rome. Earlier we have been advised to get Roma pass to save the queue waiting time in Colosseum, so we got the same in termini and proceed towards Colosseum by Metro. Metro in Rome is pretty simple with only two lines A and B intersecting at this main station Termini. We were already getting familiarised and located the colosseo Metro station in the map which is just two stops from Termini on Line B. When we stepped out of the colosseo station, the Colosseum itself stood in our ways infront of us.

Always wanted to see this wonder from my childhood (thanks to the films like Gladitors) and its not a dream anymore. Though most part of the colossuem were in ruined state, it retains its aura of majesticness to be part of the wonder club. One has to render their imaginative skills to bring back the energetic and rampant environment which the colosseum has offered during its adolescence. Imagine the scene of Sachin batting at 90's in fully packed Eden gardens , all these wall of colosseum would have seen many such electrifying moments.

After our day of episode in colosseum, we proceed Roman Forum an excavated site with ruins of the ancient rome, placed just opposite to that colosseum. It is very dreadful to see few columns of various ancient temples withstanding alone against the eroding time. When we thought enough of this place, it was already 6 pm and we were lagging from our schedule. So we skipped Circus Maximus and proceeded towards the Pantheon "The temple of all Gods".
